Instructional Design

As a teacher, I focus on making learning more efficient, effective, and appealing. I've taught a variety of college courses, my two favorites being Technical Writing and Multimedia Systems. I enjoy balancing practical knowledge with theory, and I try to share my work experience with my students. I have also taught a variety of technical workshops, and I author a wide range of support documentation.

Course Syllabi and Assignments

Red-Butte-Garden-UT3 I have taught a variety of undergraduate courses at USU and several undergraduate and graduate courses at Westminster College. Students enjoy my enthusiasm and my focus on applied learning. My "English 305: Tech Writing for Non-Writing Majors" course was so popular I had to turn away nearly double the course cap. One student evaluation commented, "this was the best college course I've ever had."

Technology Workshops

Canyonlands-UT2 I love teaching people how to do things. After surveying Westminster's staff, I created a series of customized technology workshops. They were well received, and comments included: "Stephan is an excellent teacher," "Stephan was knowledgeable and engaging," and "the classes were very informative, helpful, and worthwhile."

"Quick Tip" Instructional Documents

Helper-Canyon-UT2 To support the Westminster community and answer common questions, I created a simple template for procedural instructional documents. These "Quick Tips" were instantly popular and faculty began distributing them in class. I continued writing them over the years and soon had users asking, "do you have a Quick Tip for that?"
